Overview of Eyeball Chat free video instant messaging software

Eyeball Chat gets points for winning the name game! The name says it all: chat with video capability. What is required to actually have an Eyeball Chat with all its features?

Eyeball Chat requirements:

1. Microsoft Windows 98, ME, 2000
   or XP
2. 400MHz Intel/AMD CPU with
   64MB RAM
3. 56Kbps connection or higher
4. Speakers & microphone or headset
   (reduces feedback noise)
5. Microsoft DirectX 8.0 or later
6. Webcam required to send video

With this equipment and Eyeball Chat’s software, one is launched into a world of virtual video chat rooms resembling the beloved instant messengers already in existence at AIM, MSN or Yahoo! Buddies. Here, you can invite a friend to talk and actually see their faces while doing it!

The Eyeball Chat software is free. However, the video frame refresh rates are slower than the paid version and the audio is of lesser quality. If one upgrades the free software to the paid version there is also better support for AIM, MSN, and Yahoo! Messenger service users, improved firewall support, and newer chat rooms added. .

One of the limitations of Eyeball Chat is that it does not offer multiple video windows for chatting with more than one person. It also only supports the Windows operating systems.

To become a member of the Eyeball Chat community one need not buy all the equipment if one doesn’t care about sending out video or audio. One may only want to receive images or audio files. This is allowed within this community. However, the temptation to log in and invite someone to a video conversation will soon cause even the stingiest chatter to spring for a webcam and a microphone.

The company behind the Eyeball Chat technology, Eyeball Networks, also offers VoIP and video telephony solutions for business applications. Eyeball Networks is a world leader in telephony software for service providers and device manufacturers. They support more than 6 million VoIP and video telephony subscribers and 10 billion call minutes for more than 100 service providers in North America, Europe and Asia.
