Sony video conferencing systems offer affordable conferencing equipment for a variety of end users

Sony video conferencing systems feature high-quality equipment that meet the conferencing and communication needs of small businesses, educators, and physicians reaching out across long distances. Sony's plug and play products are designed for a mobile environment that can be set-up easily, and all of the conferencing equipment can be simply configured for multi-point conference use.

Sony video conferencing equipment uses both IP and ISDN networks for maximum video quality with a "speedmatching" function that allows increased connection traffic without compromising the video conference quality. For example, the Sony PCS-G70 and PCS-G50 conference products can be configured for six remote video conferencing sites with two cameras at each location. These tools also include interactive whiteboard capture devices and data sharing capabilities.

The PCS-1 solution combines video and web conferencing

Sony's most affordable video conferencing solution for small businesses and educators is the Sony PCS-1 which offers advanced video coding, multi-media file and document sharing, a dedicated interface for the Mimio Xi interactive whiteboard capture device, plus a memory stick that records the user's phonebook. In addition, the AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) assures continuous security measures. In March 2005, Sony joined forces with the Cisco Call Manager System, which is a software solution that uses VoIP-based technology. This new conferencing technology integrates with the PCS-1 hardware, allowing for greater ease-of-use and integration capabilities.

How does Sony compare with other video conferencing solutions: Polycom, TANDBERG and VTEL?

Sony matches the video conferencing leaders, Polycom and TANDBERG, in web, voice and video integrations; although Polycom provides greater camera capabilities with their pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) features and has greater audio capabilities than Sony. TANDBERG outperforms Sony in multi-site capabilities and in web scheduling. Keeping in mind that Sony's video conferencing solutions are designed for the small-to medium-sized business rather than the enterprise clients of Polycom and TANDBERG, Sony's conferencing technology keeps up the pace with these giants via its IP and ISDN network integration, video and sound quality, and ease-of-use. Sony uses capture devices with its interactive whiteboards for the education and telemedicine markets, but the VTEL video conferencing and distance education products dominate this market through their use of Smartboard hardware and whiteboard software.

Sony's video conferencing solutions may fall short when compared with the above video conferencing enterprise solutions, but Sony's quality and accessibility make it a winner for small- and medium-sized businesses communicating with clients, educators teaching distance learning students, and physicians practicing telehealth patient solutions.
